Rumble at the River Post Game Notes
One might call UK’s first win of the season smooth sailing, as they pulled out a win against Miami-OH with a score of 42-0. As most UK fans, I too thought this game got off to a slow start, but once the offense got going, there was no stopping the Big Blue. Looking improved, Mike Hartline not only appeared polished but also had a great handle on the ball and ultimately “took care of business”. Managing two touchdowns, (one rushing and one receiving) Randall Cobb came out looking sharp and electrifying. Another nice surprise was seeing Chris Matthews using his size to his advantage, ultimately making a great catch and contributing to UK’s big win. Though most of you, as I, heard Rich Brooks talking about Derrick Locke needing to work on his conditioning, I have to say he sure looked good on his touchdown run in today’s game. Overall, I have to say, I thought the defense looked like a strong SEC team, especially the secondary which included the All-American, Trevard Lindley. I felt his interception for a touchdown needed to be pointed out (not to mention he just missed having a second). Mind you, this was the first defensive shutout since 1996. Today was a great day for UK football fans. After all, we got to see several freshmen play the first game of the season. For now it’s clear that Will Fidler is the backup QB and that it’s a new year for UK football fans. Overall, UK materialized the one thing that counted. A win. GO CATS!
