Rich Brooks has shaken things up in practice this week to prepare for Alabama. In doing so, he has the first team offense going against the first team defense. Typically college teams don't take this approach because of the risk of injury, but in this case Rich Brooks is rolling the dice. The team has been known for starting slow and hopefully this will help get them ready for SEC football.
Football fans read to much into one game according to the Herald-Leader. I agree with the article, fans need to chill. Fans should not be happy with the performance against the Gators, it was unacceptable. However the season is not lost. Remember where UK has come from and the direction we are headed. I have read on several other sites that UK is just a basketball school and UK will never have a top 15 program. I disagree with both. Yes, UK is tradition rich in basketball, but is headed in the right direction with the football program. You can't build a football program in a couple of years, it takes several. UK's top recruiting class was last year, not 2003 or 2004 when the team signed Woodson, Tamme, Burton, Woodyard, etc. Kentucky fans need to realize that the programs best years are still to come. Remember, Morgan Newton turned down the Gators, Ryan Mossakowski turned down the Tide and we have several other players who chose the Cats over other schools. I am confident when I say that UK will sign more four star recruits in the 2010 class than any other year.
Taylor Wyndham has become a household name after his hit on Tim Tebow. On my way back home from Lexington, I stopped in Knoxville and several Tennessee fans were complimenting the big hit on Tebow. When I returned home to Columbia, the Gamecock and Clemson fans were raving about Wyndham, the local player who got away. The hit was clean and hopefully we see more big hits from Wyndham. In five years, no one will remember the score of the football game, they will remember UK lost and Taylor Wyndham knocked Tim Tebow out of the game.
Rick Bozich writes, when all else fails, ask the computers. Rick writes an interesting article about the computer rankings which talks about UK. The SEC continues to show how strong the conference is this year with three of the top four teams ranked by the computers.
On the recruiting front Xavier McFadden (Rock Hill, SC) attended UK for the Florida game and liked what he saw. Rivals had McFadden ranked as a three star cornerback and UK is recruiting him for that position. Currently, UK is the lone offer for the prep star based on reports. Other schools like N.C. State, Clemson and South Carolina are getting involved, but have not offered yet.
