Monday Morning UK Football Links & Notes

It took Rich Brooks over five minutes to read the team's injury list yesterday during his conference call with the media. Brooks named 15 players that were injured and would be held out of practice for the short term. The Cats hope to have both Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke back for the Vanderbilt game.

Rich Brooks is also unsure who will be the starting quarterback against Vanderbilt. Mike Hartline will return to practice and should resume his starting role if ready. There is no question that Mike Hartline knows the offense better than Morgan Newton, but is Hartline ready? It his timing back? How mobile is he? Please share your thought in the comment section.

The Examiner highlights the Cats victory over EKU and praises Morgan Newton. Newton looked really good against EKU and could start if Hartline isn't fully recovered. The coaches won't make a decision on the starting quarterback until later this week. It is possible that Hartline could back up Newton against Vandy or vice versa.

Reserve backs keep UK in the running writes Michael Grant. With Derrick Locke out, Moncell Allen, Alfonso Smith and Donald Russell all saw action against EKU. All three running backs scored touchdowns with Russell having the highlight run of 79 yards.

The Richmond Register writes; the Cats used size and strength to roll past Colonels. UK started out a little flat, but UK's offensive and defensive line overmatched EKU and simply wore them down. As one of the players from EKU said, "It felt like David versus Goliath".

Will Fidler did see action against EKU. Fidler has now played in four games this season and has taken a back seat to Morgan Newton. If Mike Hartline returns, could Fidler see action again this season? Everyone needs to remember Fidler's play against Auburn when they reflect on the season.
