Corey Peters Interview

Tonight I had the opportunity to interview Corey Peters who we should see playing on Sunday's in the near future. Corey recently attended the NFL Combine and felt he had a good showing. He plans on working out for scouts tomorrow at UK's Pro Day. Corey said, "I will do everything. I'm extremely competitive and always looking to do better."

When asked about his draft status Corey replied, "I've heard everything from 3rd round to being a free agent. I'm just looking for an opportunity to get into a camp." Corey has talked to several teams about their defensive schemes and he's trying to be "flexible" to fit their needs. Corey plans on working out with "Coach Rock" over the next couple of weeks. He recently spent time in Cincinnati training for the combine.

After chatting about his NFL future, we had to talk UK football. I asked Corey about Joker taking over and he said, "I've always been a big fan of Coach Phillips. He recruited me and is a big reason I chose UK." He feels Joker will keep the program headed in the right direction, but it's going to be tough because UK plays in the SEC.

With all of the speculation around UK's offensive line heading into spring practice, who better to ask? Corey said, "It's always tough when you lose seniors, but the young guys will have to step up." Peters cited playing experience by Brad Durham and Stuart Hines as being key for the Offensive Line. Corey raved about Larry Warford and said, "Larry is the best freshman I've seen in college. He has all of the physical tools and mental aspects." It sounds like UK may move a few players around, but nothing is final.

Corey and I chatted about the Defensive Line heading in to spring and I asked him, "Who's going to replace Corey Peters?" He said, "I'm sure the coaches will have an open camp." Based on our conversation, he expects Shane McCord, Mark Crawford and Mister Cobble to compete for the starting job. He said, "Mister has shown a lot of promise."

We chatted about his career at UK and the accomplishments by his class. He told me, "it's a really good feeling, we didn't accomplish all of our goals, but had a good run." He also said, "I wanted to help build something special."

When asked about the future of Kentucky Football Corey said, "Hopefully in 10 years UK has won a couple of National Championships".
