Mike Hartline continues to create separation between himself and the two underclassmen. Click on the link to ready Larry Vaught's article. I've felt all along Hartline would be the starter against Louisville. While he hasn't "wowed" fans in the past, he does manage the game and isn't turnover prone. In reality, Newton and Mossakowski need more reps and time to develop. Based on the interviews posted earlier, it seems Hartline is taking control, Newton is putting a lot of pressure on himself and Mossakowski is taking the "happy to be here" approach. It seems Newton feels he needs to be "be the man", when he should relax and play football. Moss is lying low and taking the nothing to lose approach. Most didn't figure he would start this season anyway.
If the staff names a starter by the end of spring, most figure it will be Hartline. However, the battle for back up duty could get interesting. As we saw last year, the backup is one play away from being the starter.
If Hartline is the starter, is there any chance the staff uses a redshirt on Newton this year?
GO CATS!
The question now is whether Joker will name Hartline as the 2010 starter this spring, or will Joker continue the "QB competition" into August? Neither would surprise me. But I will be surprised if Hartline isn't the starter when the Cats take the field against UL in September.
ReplyDeleteI think Joker will name Hartline the starter after spring assuming he continues to play well. At that point, do they keep the back up spot a competition?
