Max Smith commits to Cats

California quarterback Max Smith has committed to Kentucky and will enroll as a greyshirt in January 2011. The staff stated they wanted to sign a quarterback in the 2011 class and I expect them to still do so if they can get one of their primary recruiting targets. Smith is listed at 6'5" and 220 lbs.

  1. I just checked out some good video of Max at Scout.com. I'm not sure that he is 6'5. He may be stretching that a bit. But he sure has a quick release. I was impressed.

  3. Scouts has him down on our 2010 commitment list so maybe he wont be taking a 2011 scholarship

  4. He will count towards the 2010 class, not the 2011. Scout is correct.

His recruitment is a little strange. Hopefully he has inked with UK becuase if not, another school could slip in and get him in camp this summer. We will find out for sure, as I will ask the question Saturday. If the staff talks, then you know he has inked. If not, then he hasn't.

By signing Max, it takes pressure of the staff to sign a QB in the 2011 class. My guess is they will continue to recruit 4-5 guys in hopes to land one. Now they can be picky.

  5. Sounds like he could be a real sleeper, this staff has found a bunch. As I commented on the other story, this will be great if it does nothing but free up a great athlete in Brause to get on the field instead of sit on the bench as a QB backup. Assuming he isn't good enough to be in the mix there.

  6. I am from Cali and got to see this kid play. Easily 6'5" throws the ball 70 yards. Had trouble with weak receivers, but still managed 22 touchdowns with only two INTs. I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with his arrival
