The Cats will scrimmage today at 1pm and it's open to the public. Today is a big day for a lot of players, especially the younger guys. The scrimmage today will go a long way in determining depth charts and making impressions on the staff. While it's good to do well in practice drills, it's a bigger deal to play well in game situations. If Mike Hartline performs well enough today, he could really put the pressure on Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski to battle for the number two spot at quarterback. The staff has stated they would like to name a starter coming out of spring and Hartline appears to be the leader.
It will be really interesting to see how the offensive and defensive lines perform today. Honestly, I look for the defensive line to have a better day because the offensive line hasn't played together as a unit in game situations. Mister Cobble needs to have a big scrimmage and the Cats need to determine who will lead the offensive line (center).
Today's scrimmage is an opportunity for guys like Aaron Boyd, EJ Fields, Martavious Neloms, Jordan Aumiller and Justin Henderson to open some eyes and insert themselves into the competition for major playing time. It's also time for guys like Collins Ukwu, Shane McCord and Ronnie Sneed to step up or get passed on the depth chart.
At the end of today, let's hope for no injuries and a good scrimmage. Check back later as I will have updates on today's scrimmage. GO CATS!
