Yesterday I had the opportunity to interview Ryan Smith (2011-OL/DL) who plays at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. Ryan informed me Navy recently visited his school and verbally offered him. He is also hearing from Kentucky, Louisville, Western Kentucky and Illinois. Both Louisville and Illinois are evaluating him as a defensive tackle while Kentucky likes him as a center.
Ryan recently attended the National Underclassmen Combine and received the Defensive Line MVP Award and the Strongest Lineman Award. He told me he benched 185lbs 36 times at the combine. His max is 350lbs on bench and 655lbs on squat. He will attend the Top 100 camp on July 10th.
Ryan has taken visits to Western Kentucky, Kentucky and Louisville and will visit Navy on July 16th. He plans to attend camps at Marshall (June 6th), Kentucky (June 8th), Louisville (June 13th) and Illinois (June 19th).
Last season Ryan was named Honorable Mention All-City and is determined to be 1st Team All-State in 2010. He hopes to major in Sports Management or Business. Based on the interview, Ryan will be playing his senior season with a chip on his shoulder. He seems out to show everyone he is one of the most underrated players in the state.
