Who's it gonna be?

The Cats are into summer workouts and the quarterbacks are working hard to make their case for the starting job this fall. Once the team gets into camp, there will not be enough snaps for three quarterbacks with the first team offense. The staff had a difficult time naming a starter coming out of spring. I've heard the progression of the offensive line didn't help the staff with their evaluation process either. Give me your prediction now! Who will start against Louisville and who will start against Tennessee?

  1. Hartline will start against Louisville but in the end Mossakowaski will be the starter against Tenn. If you run a pro style offense, which we are supposabially trying to run ????? Moss will end up being the guy.

  2. Hartline will start the season, Moss will finish it.

  3. The UL game will tell me a lot about what type of coach joker will be. If he starts Hartline, he will be a consertative coach ala Rich Brooks, who plays not to lose. If he starts Newton, there will be higher risks but the rewards will be higher. I hope he is the type of coach that will be like the latter because 6 or 7 wins is all he can expect out of Hartline while Newton has the potential to get you 9 or 10 wins.

  5. Morgan Newton all the way, assuming no injuries.

  6. I am hoping that Newton or Moss will be the starter. But I am feeling that Hartline will be the starter for the whole season. Either way, the coaching staff knows a lot more about this situation than any of us commenting on it, and they will put the best player on the field.

  7. I think the guy who can show the most usage in the playbook will start. Hartline will probably start the Louisville game but either Newton or Moss can probably take it from there if they can show they can play within the offense. I don't think Joker will be that conservative of a coach. He knows the first game will set the tone of the season. Hartline is not a bad qb, he may never be a great one but like a friend put it, he's more of a Chad Pennington type qb, plays safe. Newton has a lot of work to do with his accuracy and he's not a burner to run but could be like a Tebow style qb if he can get his strength up. I'm not calling Newton the next Tebow. Newton tends to have problems with his confidence but he is still a young kid at this point. Moss probably has the most potential but it's going to take a little time to get his mental confidence from his surgery. I'm going to support who ever our qb is and who knows what Joker may do. I'm not expecting for UK to win it all but you never know. Best way to describe them is we have a Pennington type(Hartline), McNabb type(Newton), Farve/P. Manning type(Moss) depends how he wants to play but you get what I mean. Thats the potential we have with our main three. What it will really come down to is our o-line and receiver play.

  8. It is too early to know who will start at QB. Until Mike Summers gets his OL worked out, it's too early to know a lot of factors that will play major roles for UK's 2010 offensive unit.

UK's staff wanted to see all three QB candidates perform with their feet set in the pocket in spring drills. Because four starters graduated and the OL is being retooled, the QBs were running for their lives for most of April. Therefore, the staff did not get to see what they needed to see. At the end of spring drills, all three QBs were still in the competition. The logjam will be broken by developments that have not yet occurred with the OL, and one of the three QBs will take advantage in August.

In terms of the athletic comparison, I agree with the Newton/McNabb analogy to a certain extent. In terms of build and tools, I would compare Mossakowski to Troy Aikman. In terms of the early evolution of their careers, I would compare Hartline to another stringbean, Tennessee's Erik Ainge.
