Player Profile: Aaron Boyd

Boyd came to UK as a 4* WR from Henry Clay High School in Lexington. His recruitment eventually came down to UK and Oregon. Many people had high hopes for Boyd in his freshman season, but he battled Mono during the summer. If the Boyd name sounds familiar, it is because he is the younger brother of former UK QB Shane Boyd. Boyd will be going into his sophomore season after a redshirt, and he will have to work his way back up the depth chart. I still think that Boyd can make an impact for the Cats.

  1. Boyd sure had a lot of hype in high school, and to be rated a 4* is impressive, you have to have some tools to get that rating. His picture here looks like one of a football player. His older brother sure had a lot of raw talent, in football and baseball.

I think Boyd can become a factor for UK yet, but I think one of the biggest things going against him now is the FACT that UK has some really outstanding talent at WR now, and not just among the starters.

  2. Aaron, I like the fact that you're an optimist... I'd be more concerned if LaRod King and Brian Adams weren't on the roster to take up Boyd's slack...

  3. he's the perfect example of expecting too much too soon. he would have benefitted from redshirting his freshman year. i look for big things from him in his rs jr season.

  4. With Burton and Johnson graduating there were some unrealistic expectations for Boyd coming in. He still has 3 years left and while it may take longer than hoped I believe he can still become a legit SEC receiver.
