I have studied Kentucky's football recruiting since 2002 and found some really good info. First, let me say this coaching staff has done an awesome job of finding players that slipped through the cracks. Second, the staff has been able to leave the state of Kentucky to recruit better players which the numbers clearly show. With that said, I wanted to take a look at some key Kentucky Targets for 2010. We have already reviewed the entire offensive side of the ball, (check my archives if you want to review them), so now it's time to look at the defensive line recruits for 2010.
Defensive End- Kentucky has extended offers to CJ Olaniyan (Warren, MI), Mike Douglas (Largo, FL), Tim Jackson (St. Petersburg, FL), Tobi Okuyemi (Plymouth, MN), Alfy Hill (Shallotte, NC), Derrick Bryant (Columbus, OH) and David Perry (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
C.J. Olaniyan**** has received about 17 offers so far during his recruiting process. CJ recently received an offer from Oklahoma State and stated that they will probably get an official visit. He likes their colors. However, CJ's teammate William Gholston has committed to Michigan State and the Spartans are after Olaniyan as well.
Mike Douglas*** has received about 10 offers thus far from various colleges. Douglas has stated that he likes Colorado State for their business school, but it seems hard to imagine him turning down some schools with higher football prestige but you never know. Also, his teammate Sean Holte has received an offer from Colorado State and they love playing together. It appears UK is not involved with Holte. Douglas has stated he will probably decide sometime in December.
Tim Jackson*** has about 20 offers from various schools and hasn't narrowed his list to five yet. However, it is certain that both Stanford and Wake Forest will be receiving visits from Jackson. Stanford has really stood out to Jackson during his recruting process.
Tobi Okuyemi*** has seven offers so far and it appears he is waiting on an offer from Notre Dame. Tobi just recently took an unofficial visit to South Bend with his mom and sister and came away impressed. However, the Irish have still not offered and want to see more game film as they see him as an OLB instead of DE. Tobi says he is still open to all the schools that have offered him.
Alfy Hill**** has offers from everyone it seems like. However, the NC standout appears to be down to North Carolina and Alabama. Hill almost committed to the Heels back in the spring, but decided to take a visit to Alabama instead. The Tide have made a big impression on Hill and he claims he will make a decision within the next two weeks.
Derrick Bryant*** has several offers from major football schools. He has narrowed his list of schools to four and they are UCLA, Oregon, North Carolina and Kentucky. Bryant has already set up a Sept 5th visit to UCLA and in the process of setting up visits with the others. Let's hope that proximity to home comes into play for Bryant.
David Perry*** has over 20 offers from major schools, but it appears that both Miami, LSU and Florida are leading the pack as he has taken unoffical visits to each. Perry is going back to Miami during the year to watch practices as well. It appears that he has a good relationship with Tommie Robinson.
Defensive Tackle- Kentucky has extended offers to Bryon Bennett (Madison, MS), Tim McAdoo (Murfreesboro, TN) and Marcus Thomas (Oviedo, FL).
Byron Bennett*** has offers from about 10 schools so far in his recruting process. Byron has stated that his top three are Arkansas, Ole Miss and Alabama. However, he is considering playing with his four star teammate Carlton Martin at the next level as well. Some schools are recruiting both players as a package deal.
Tim McAdoo (NR) has interest from several schools, but currently Kentucky is his lone offer. McAdoo is heaving from Tennessee, Auburn and Middle Tennessee State as well.
Marcus Thomas (NR) has interest from Michigan State, New Mexico, Wake Forest and Central Florida. However Kentucky is currently the lone offer from the Florida standout. One key note is Thomas' high school teammate Blake Bortles committed to UCF so it will be interesting to see if they offer as well.
