Christmas Eve UK Football Links & Notes

The Cats are grumpy since they are spending Christmas away from their families. The team had their first practice in Nashville and Rich Brooks called the effort "sluggish". Brooks also said he had to yell a little too much, but the team finished practice "pretty good". Click on the link to Chip Cosby's article.

UK's 2010 quarterback competition is a three-way race between Mike Hartline, Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski. Hartline has a career record of 8-6, while Morgan Newton already has a record of 5-2 after just one season. The coaches are unsure if Mossakowski is fully recovered from his shoulder injury. However, the staff feels he is ahead mentally than any other quarterback they have had at this stage. The spring practice will go along way towards naming the starter for 2010. Someone mentioned Morgan Newton could red-shirt 2010, but that seems like an unlikely scenario in my opinion.

Remember to read the post from yesterday on Xavier McFadden (3-Star CB) from South Carolina. McFadden tried to commit to UK back in September, but the coaching staff held off based on my conversation with his father. McFadden is receiving interest from N.C. State, Illinois, Louisville and Auburn.

We also learned yesterday that Brandon Gainer (Miami, FL) is now considering Kentucky for 2010. Gainer is a three star running back according to Rivals and 4.5 star according to ESPN. Check out the video post from earlier to see the running back in action.

LaRod King missed practice on Wednesday with the flu and is expected to be out again on Thursday. King has come on strong as a true freshman and hopefully he will be ready to go on Sunday.

The Cat Walk will be at 5:15 pm on Sunday at the corner of Victory Avenue and South 2nd Street. The team will enter at the East service entrance by walking down 2nd Street.

  1. It would be stupid to redshirt Morgan next yr, there is now a yr of separation between him and Ryan M which is a good thing. To redshirt him puts them back in the same class and creates chaos in the depth chart and in recruiting.

LaRod King has been hanging around R Cobb which is never a bad thing. By doing so, he will develop a great work ethic and hate to lose like Randall does!! My personal thoughts are that he may be a real go to guy like real soon!! If we go 3 wide, the CATS could be tough especially with the sizes of C Matthews and L King. We still need at least 1 WR for the '10 class. M Humphrey and D Lewis would be great presents for the CAT Faithful.

    Merry Christmas to all

  2. Don't forget Jerrell Priester and Duncan McGriff. They both have received some interest in UK. I would like to see the Cats land Lewis and Humphrey. The passing game should open up nicely, we just need a TE.
