The Sporting News College Football gives their preview of the Clemson - Kentucky match up in the Music City Bowl. This will be a home game for the Cats based on ticket sales. UK has sold nearly 16,000 tickets to Clemson's 4,000. Wow! Below are my keys to the game for UK.
The Cats must contain CJ Spiller. The Cats should not kick to him on special teams or he will make them pay. Spiller's back up is Andre Ellington, who UK recruited. Ellington is more of a north and south running back and is very explosive. He would have looked great in blue! Kyle Parker has a great arm and will try to hook up with Jacoby Ford (WR) and Michael Palmer (TE). If you haven't watched Clemson, Jacoby Ford is faster than CJ Spiller and Palmer is a big tight end that can catch the ball. In my opinion, Palmer presents a difficult match up and this is where UK will miss Sam Maxwell.
If UK can avoid giving up the big plays on defense and not turn the ball over on offense, the Cats have a great opportunity to win their fourth consecutive bowl game. Based on Joker Phillip's comments, Morgan Newton is throwing the ball well in practice and should start. If Newton can avoid turnovers and Randall Cobb can keep the Clemson defense guessing, the Cats will put enough points on the board to win. I'm sure most UK fans are like me and want to see a breakout game for Chris Matthews. Chris has the size and speed to dominate at receiver. Newton just needs to have the same confidence in Chris.
Based on his comments and giving it more thought, the Music City Bowl appears to be Derrick Locke's final game at Kentucky. Locke has a family which he must consider and returning to school for his senior year likely won't improve his draft status. Everyone needs to take into consideration that Locke has already suffered a major knee injury and one during his senior year could be devastating to his pro career. Also, Locke has witnessed first hand what coming back for his senior season has done for Trevard Lindley.
