Clemson vs. Kentucky Bowl Matchup

Chip Cosby gives his usual positional breakdown for the Music City Bowl tonight. Chip gives UK the advantage in one aspect of the game, Offensive line. He gives the Tigers advantages at Quarterback, Running Back, Receiver, Defensive Line and Special Teams. Chip feels that both teams are evenly matched at the Linebacker and Secondary positions.

For once, I have to disagree with Chip on this one. UK will control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Clemson's DaQuann Bowers has been injured and likely won't be 100%. Both Clemson defensive ends are good pass rushers, but they have shown problems stopping the run. Even with Sam Maxwell sitting out the game, UK's linebackers are better than Clemson's and if Trevard Lindley is 90%, then UK's secondary is better than Clemson's. Overall UK has a much better defense than Clemson and faced a much tougher schedule.

On offense, Kyle Parker is a better quarterback than Morgan Newton and Clemson has great receivers in Jacoby Forde and tight end Michael Harper. UK will have their hands full matching up with Harper. Yes, C.J. Spiller is deserving of his hype and can spring a big play at any moment. However, Spiller knows he has a combine to get ready for and will likely be the No 1 running back selected in the draft. The bottom line, the game is won and lost at the line of scrimmage. If UK can avoid the big play on defense and not turn the ball over, the Cats will win.
