Tuesday UK Football Links and Notes

Okay, I'm back in the saddle and a lot has happened over the past couple of days. So here goes:

UK had 10 football recruits on campus this past weekend instead of 13. For whatever reason, certain players couldn't make it and some will reschedule (Rajaan Bennett 4-Star RB). UK has received commitments from Anterio Sloan (4-Star CB), Brice Laughlin (3-Star DT) and Dale Trimble (3-Star CB). UK could also land Joseph Byrd (3-Star RB) soon.

UK's 2010 recruiting class is coming together nicely. Many people will argue differently, but I believe the coaching staff is very pleased. UK's best class was 2009 (based on rivals star ranking) since 2002. In that Class UK signed 3-Four Star Recruits and 16-Three Star Recruits. UK currently has 1-Four Star Commit and 13-Three Star commits for 2010 and the Cats are not finished. Remember in the 2009 class, two of the three star commits never made it to campus (Donte Rumph and Terrell Mitchell), both could possibly enroll in January as grey shirts.

We found out Sam Maxwell will miss the Bowl Game due to a shoulder injury. This is a tough loss for UK as Sam Maxwell should be the team's Defensive MVP. UK will miss Sam and I hate it for him personally as he deserved to shine one final time for the Cats. Make sure you visit Larry Vaught's site and leave your comments for Maxwell.

It was confirmed on Sunday the Cats would play Clemson in the Music City Bowl again. This is a rematch from a couple years ago when the Cats defeated Clemson in Nashville. I'm sure C.J. Spiller will be healthy and ready to have a big game. UK has allowed several running backs to run wild and Spiller is no different. Also, Spiller has been huge in the kick return game, which is another area of concern for the UK coaching staff.

Multiple UK players were named ALL-SEC by the AP yesterday. Randall Cobb has been named 1st team ALL-SEC. Corey Peters, Sam Maxwell and Derrick Locke all were named to the 2nd team, while Zipp Duncan was named Honorable Mention.

The Twitter feed's are having issues and I will get them back up and running as soon as possible. You can visit Twitter and search either UKCoachBrooks or AaronsUKFBBlog.

  1. I did not know that last years class was the best. That is very interesting. While the offense is not as explosive as it was with Woodson and company, one has to admit that the overall quality of talent at UK is improving. Our two best players failed to make the All SEC teams and 3 others stepped up.

Early on, Micah and Trevethan were spoken of highly as ones to watch and Maxwell ended up stealing the show.

Also, on the recruiting front. I live in Knoxville and on the radio this morning I heard a rumor that Alcoa's Running Toney has been visited by the UK staff. Toney scored something like 50 TD's on this year's 3A State Chamionship team. Alcoa has become a pipline for UK.
Also, UK's current commit Tyler Robinson had double digit tackles in the state chamionship game from the DE position. He was a bear. Their opponent was Milan where Avery Williamson plays and he had a heck of a game at LB as well.

  2. UK is doing well in Tennessee. The coaches want the RB at Alcoa badly. I can't imagine UT will let him slip through. Robinson will be solid and could play TE or DE, Virginia Tech even considered him for center. Williamson will be solit too. The Cats are going to be good. The best years are still to come.

  3. There is an RB behind Toney that may end up being better than him at Alcoa. His name escapes me right now. I need to give a few people a call.
