2010 UK Commit Nermin Delic has been named to the Georgia All-State team as defensive end. Delic was also named the Georgia 7A Defensive Player of the Year as well. Both Rajion Neal and Storm Johnson were named offensive players of the year. Neal committed to Mississippi State over UK and Johnson committed to Miami over UK, FSU, Michigan State and UNC. I am disappointed that Raymond Sanders didn't make the team. Sanders is a big time player. He reminds me of Dion Lewis from Pitt.

Lates story about Nermin!
ReplyDeleteBy Adam Krohn, The Daily Citizen, Dalton, Ga.
Dec. 30--On Dec. 14, Northwest Whitfield's Nermin Delic broke his nose during practice one day before the Bruins' basketball game against rival Dalton. Three days later, Delic underwent surgery and has been sidelined ever since. On Tuesday, Delic rejoined the Bruins at practice and he brought along another nice football honor. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Delic, a tight end/defensive end was selected to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class 4A All-State Team. Dalton offensive lineman Watts Dantzler also earned a spot on the AJC squad and his Catamounts teammate Jalen Fields, a defensive end, was listed as honorable mention. "It's a great honor to be voted to the AJC team," said Delic, who also earned a spot on The Daily Citizen's All-Area Team on Christmas Day, as did Dantzler and Fields. "I think I deserved being on the (AJC) team because I worked very hard all year and I'm glad I got the recognition. It's a blessing." Delic, who is committed to Kentucky and has an official visit planned on Jan. 8-10 to the Wildcats' campus in Lexington, Ky., led the Bruins to a 7-4 record and berth in the first round of the state playoffs where they lost to Southwest DeKalb, 40-3. The two-way standout had 79 tackles, three forced fumbles and a touchdown and was selected the Defensive Player of the Year by Region 7-4A coaches. Offensively, Delic caught two touchdown passes and was a powerful blocker in short-yardage situations. After the Bruins' final football game, Delic quicky turned his attention to basketball. And he displayed his gridiron toughness during that mid-December practice session while going for a loose ball. "The next thing I know is I caught an elbow on my nose and was briefly knocked out," Delic said. "I got up and couldn't walk around. I went to the emergency room and they told me my nose was broke. My nose was crooked and the doctors broke it again to get it back in place and make sure it was OK." Delic said he would wear a protective mask the rest of the season. The Bruins' next game is on Jan. 5 at home against Murray County. Soon after that first post-Christmas game, Delic will make his visit to Kentucky, which recently lost to Clemson, 23-21, in the Music City Bowl. "I had the visit scheduled for Dec. 18," Delic said, "but had to postpone it after I got hurt. I'm pretty excited about getting up there. I watched the bowl game on TV and I was up there (Lexington) on an unofficial trip for the Alabama game, but didn't get to see a lot because we had to get back home. "I'm looking forward to exploring the whole campus this time." Delic said Kentucky coaches want to "try me first at defensive end" and then see how he does at tight end. "They think if I get my weight up to a good number, say 255 or 260, I've got a good chance to play defensive end," the Bruins' senior said. "I'm 250 right now. I was up to 253 or 254 but have lost a pound or two since my surgery." Last basketball season Delic dropped 20 pounds, but won't do that again. "I learned my lesson," he said.
