2010 UK Recruiting Update

There are 22 days left until signing day and the Cats currently have 24 verbal commitments. Currently there are no signs of any commitments from this past weekend. Mr. SEC gives his SEC recruiting comparison and UK comes in at No 9 in total commitments, but last in average star ranking.

UK has added two new assistant coaches to the staff in the past week. The first being Mike Summers (offensive line) and David Turner (defensive line). Both coaches have a ton of experience and should be upgrades for recruiting. Summers has NFL experience and Turner has coached at Alabama and been a recruiting coordinator at Vanderbilt. Look for both coaches to continue recruiting some key players they were recruiting at their previous schools.

It's important for a recruit to feel comfortable with their position coach as that is who they will spend the most time with during their career. I'm sure one of Turner's first calls will be to Tim Patterson. Also, Turner was recruiting Michael Thornton (Stone Mountain, Ga) while at Mississippi State. Let's hope that Turner along with help from Raymond Sanders, Jabari Johnson and Ronnie Shields land the four star defensive tackle.

Recruits to keep an eye as we close in on signing day are: Dyjuan Lewis (WR), Maudrecus Humphrey (WR), Lamar Ivey (ATH), Rajaan Bennett (RB), Brandon Gainer (RB), Miles Simpson (RB), Jerrell Priester (ATH), Xavier McFadden (CB), Tim Jackson (DE), Tim Patterson (DE), Marcus Thomas (LB), DJ Howard (RB), Trevaughn Brooks (RB) and Duncan McGriff (Juco-WR). Remember, the Cats can sign up to 28 players and there are always a couple that never make it to campus.

Charlie Strong continues to land verbal commitments, but the Cats are still the top team in the Bluegrass State. Everyone needs to remember that Louisville had about 14 commitments when Strong took over, they had room to add players. Personally, I feel the attention Louisville is receiving is great for Kentucky. With Charlie Strong and Joker Phillips going at it over the next couple of years, it will show recruits the state is not just about basketball.
