Today I had a nice interview with 2011 recruiting target Zach West (Lexington, KY). Zach is currently listed as a three-star offensive lineman by Scout and receiving interest from several schools including UK. Zach has offers from Troy and Liberty and based on our conversation, more could follow. Zach recently visited UK for "Junior Day" and met the coaching staff. He had real nice things to say about the UK coaching staff and said, "I had a good conversation with Coach Summers and the staff went out of their way to talk to my family". The Cats have not extended an offer at this point, which should put to rest any rumors that he is going to commit anytime soon.
The spring and summer will be crazy for the prep star as he is planning on attending several camps. His lists includes a team camp at Middle Tennessee State and individual camps at Alabama, Auburn, Wake Forest and Ohio State. Zach is working on technique and trying to lose some weight. He told me he is 6'5" and 290lbs.
Grades should not be an issue for Zach as he currently has a 3.1 GPA and will take the ACT in June. He also plans to graduate with his class and not enroll early for college. Don't look for a college decision any time soon, he will likely make his final decision after his senior season. Zach told me, "I'm serious about my decision and will be dedicated to the school I choose".
I asked Zach if there were any other factors in choosing the right school and he said, "Atmosphere is a big deal for me." Look for him to take more visits during and after his senior season and then decide closer to signing day. Zach did tell me he grew up a UK fan as his family went to UK. He is also friends with current UK player Craig McIntosh (went to school together).
Hope UK does not wait for ever to offer this recruit. They should know all about him with his location being in Lexington.

What if he goes to Alabama or Ohio State camps and they offer him right on the spot.
If he rated a 3 star lineman/ some of the people who gruduated this year where not that high out of high school. I know they only a few offers for next year. But would hate to lose a player right on the doorstep.
To be honest, I think UK is still evaluating some prospects. There are several kids who should have offers in my opinion who don't. The kicker is we don't know who staff may have an inside track on already....
ReplyDeleteZach is a great kid and working hard. He's gonna need to get stronger, but you can't teach size!
zach is a beast. i watched him destroy people in the state championship game. i honestly thought he killed one of the players on the other team.
ReplyDeleteI believe he should already have a offer from UK. There's also a kid from East Jessamine that they are going let slip away, Zack Templin a 300lb 6'4" OG.
