Today I interviewed Collins Moore (Bob Jones HS, AL) who holds an offer from Kentucky. Currently, UK is his only offer, but he is being recruited hard by Vanderbilt and Auburn. He has been invited to spring practice and Junior Days at each school.
Collins will be taking a visit to Kentucky on April 10th and is very excited about his offer. He said, "It was great, considering I want to go to an SEC school." Due to his track schedule he will not be taking many visits until late in the school year.
Collins told me, "I have no favorites, I'm keeping my options open." However, there are five other players on his high school team being recruited by various SEC schools. It appears UK is not recruiting any of his teammates. Based on our conversation, he hasn't discussed playing together in college with his teammates. However, he said they try to take visits together.
Collins plans to narrow his list of schools to three before his senior season stars and likely won't make a decision until his season is over. Coach Thurmond is handling his recruitment, but Collins told me he also talks to Tee Martin as well.
This summer Collins plans on attending the Nike Combine at Alabama on May 22nd. He will also attend Alabama, Auburn and Kentucky's football camps. Each of the schools are recruiting him to play Wide Receiver. He is currently listed at 6'2" and 187lbs. He runs a 4.5 forty-yard dash.
His recruitment could be similar to Dale Trimble or Ryan Smith's. Both were key recruits from Alabama who received a lot of attention from other SEC schools late in the recruiting process. UK was able to sign Trimble, but Smith signed with Auburn. My gut feeling is Moore's recruitment will go down to the wire as well.
