On Sunday I had the opportunity to interview Conner Hempel (Ryle HS, KY). He currently holds an offer from Western Kentucky who he has visited along with Cincinnati. He plans to visit Louisville this Saturday and will try to visit UK towards the end of April. He is also being recruited by Harvard, Northwestern, Stanford, Vandy and UCLA. Last year he went to Vandy's camp so he has been on their campus already and the staff is aware of his potential.
Conner told me he plans to attend as many as eight camps this summer, possibly UK, Louisville, WKU and Illinois. He is looking for the best overall package in terms of academics and football. He currently has a 3.7 GPA and scored a 24 on the ACT as a Sophomore. He will take the ACT again just to try and improve his score.
In describing his style of play, most would consider him a traditional Quarterback, but he considers himself a "mix". He told me, "I like to roll out. I have a strong, accurate arm." He is currently listed at 6'3" and runs a 4.7 forty-yard dash.
In terms of rating the top Quarterback's in the state of Kentucky, Conner Hempel must be considered one of the top two or three (in my opinion). UK has extended an offer to DaMarcus Smith, however he has committed to Louisville. While the Cats are still recruiting Smith, he is still considered a Louisville commit. The Cats want to take a Quarterback in this class, so it's possible Joker could extend an offer to Hempel for 2011.
