Overview

It’s no secret, UK returns one starter from their offensive line last season in Stuart Hines. The offensive line is a major concern for many Big Blue fans. Let’s face it, games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. However, the Cats have players who can compete in the SEC and return some experience.

Most people expect Brad Durham and Billy Joe Murphy to start at Tackle, however I would not rule out Dave Ulinski and even Chandler Burden. The coaches have raved about Ulinksi’s run blocking ability and Burden was immediately placed at No 2 on the depth chart this spring (after moving from defensive end). With Jake Lanefski missing spring (recovering from injury) it opens the door for Sam Simpson and Matt Smith to earn a starting job. Most expect one of them to be the starting center while the other plays guard opposite of Larry Warford.

Everyone has heard the staff and players rave about Larry Warford’s ability as an offensive lineman. Corey Peters went as far to tell me that Larry was the best freshman he had played against in college. The biggest issue for the Cats in 2010 will be depth. UK only signed two players who project to play on the offensive line (McAdoo and Eatmon). Some suggest McAdoo will never make it to campus and Eatmon will need a redshirt year to get stronger.

The 2010 offensive line has talent and some experience. This group must learn to work as a unit in order for UK to make it’s 5th bowl game in as many years. Mike Summers’ hands will be full this spring trying to develop a starting unit. 2011 will be a big year for UK recruiting and the offensive line is a priority. Look for the Cats to sign at least two prospects in this class.

  1. I think the real unknowns here are Stackhouse, Woods and Mitchell. What is the word on them? Do you think any one of those three will be able to contribute, at least in the form of quality depth? Which of the three is furthest along?

Also, isn't Marcus Davis back this year? Where does he fit in?
