Most disappointing loss
What is the most disappointing UK loss or losses over the years? IE Which one really sticks in your craw?

ReplyDeleteLSU "Bluegrass Miracle"...
ReplyDeleteThese are all good choices, but, there are just soooo many to choose from. I should be brief, but I never am, so ...
ReplyDeleteAt the time, the LSU "Bluegrass Miracle" was devastating. It hurt tremendously and soured me on college football for about a week. As an absolute College Football junkie, that was no mean feat. But ultimately, the loss meant nothing. We were on probation, we weren't going to a bowl and we weren't going to win the SEC. So, surprisingly, this one does NOT make my list.
I could name at least a half dozen Tennessee losses, but two really stand out. The 2007 game where we missed the FG in OT and the 2009 loss where we did not let our two best guys touch the ball on the biggest play of the season. 2007 haunts me because of my own behavior afterwards. I am not proud of the things I said to some UT people.
But, I think the biggest loss was at Louisville in Lorenzen's first game. We were coming off back-to-back bowl seasons and optimism was through the roof. First and goal at the 2-yard line, and we do not score. I do not think the team -- or the program -- ever recovered emotionally from that game. That season alone we would finish 2-9 with 6 of those losses coming on a SINGLE play. Confidence was shot as well as all sense of purpose. Eventually, everything unraveled and spiraled down into a real mess. THAT was not the most immediately painful loss (LSU) nor the one with the biggest long-term implications (snapping that awful UT streak), but I think it had the biggest impact on the program as a whole.
^ I agree completely with that 2000 UofL game. UK was in control...then the lightning storm hit and little did we know at the time, it would be a five year storm before the sun would come back out again. But I'd also agree with a couple posters above on the 03 Florida game. Up big going into the fourth quarter and we had them stopped and punting. Then, a twelve men on the field penalty, Florida keeps the ball, scores and the rest is history. The 01 UT game (Chase Harp fumble), 07 & 09 UT games. Of course the 7 OT Arkansas and 02 LSU games hurt a lot as well.
ReplyDeleteTennessee last year and in 07, and the recent games against USC
ReplyDeleteMiss St last year was a HUGE disappointment. That changed the season in many ways.
ReplyDelete1993 Florida game when we got beat on a touchdown pass with 17 seconds in the game. I think Florida was rnked in the top 10.
