Larry Vaught writes about the upcoming game against Alabama and the chance for redemption. As Rich Brooks mentions, every team has bad games and UK is not as bad as they played Saturday. Hopefully the Florida loss will serve as a wake-up call to the team because Alabama will not spread the field like the Gators, they will line up and run the ball between the tackles and look for play action opportunities. UK's front seven (line and LB's) will have to be very physical this Saturday or it won't be pretty again.
Brett Dawson's Monday article is about the Cats falling behind with too many false starts against the Gators. Also, the article points out the 1st quarter has been a problem for UK in general. UK simply can't afford to play from behind against SEC teams, especially teams like Florida and Alabama. Kentucky doesn't have the down field passing attack to score quickly like they had in 2007 so the Cats must start better. Rich Brooks suggest the team will change their pre-game routine.
Jody Demling writes about the Cats defense against Florida. In my opinion, there isn't much to say except speed kills. Florida is extremely fast on offense and they are very difficult to stop on 3rd and short situations. However, I thought UK missed assignments and didn't tackle well in the open field.
Some people feel Tim Tebow shouldn't have been in the game when he was injured. I agree that Tebow should have been on the sideline, especially when Florida is competing for a National Championship. They simply are not the same team without Tebow at quarterback. After all, Florida proved their defense was too much for UK to overcome.
UK come out of the Florida game a little banged up. Paul Warford (CB), Justin Jeffries (OL), Sam Maxwell (LB) and Moncell Allen (RB) are questionable or doubtful for practice this week. All are big contributors on the football team and UK needs them to be healthy when they face Alabama Saturday.
On the recruiting front there were several visitors at the Florida game and I personally saw Teven Eatmon (already committed to UK) and several other recruits. It appeared that UK rolled out the red carpet for the recruits with the pre-game festivities. Some people will argue that bringing recruits to the Florida game is not a good idea. I see the pro's and con's, while some will argue that UK got embarrassed, others will argue that now UK can sell top recruits on immediate playing time. The only news that has come out thus far on the recruits that attended the game was on Skyler Schofner (3-Star OL). Schofner said that he had a good time in Lexington and stayed overnight to spend some time with the players. He also stated that he will come back to UK for another visit before he makes his decision. Schofner is big and physical and will be a great offensive lineman in college.
Check back later as I will be starting a weekly fan profile to show the dedication and support the Big Blue Nation is providing for their Wildcats.
