Friday Afternoon UK Football Links and Notes

Chip Cosby has a nice Q&A with Alfonso Smith who has had a rough start to his senior season due to nagging injuries. I expect to see Smith receive the bulk of the carries against La-Monroe with Derrick Locke not being 100%. Hopefully Smith takes advantage of this opportunity and makes some big plays.

Derrick Locke is now listed as probable and will see some action this weekend. In my opinion, UK should only use Locke if necessary. I would expect to see Winston Guy in his place on kick off returns. UK's offensive line should over-match La-Monroe to establish the running game. Brooks should primarily run Smith and mix in Locke a bit during the first half. Hopefully the Cats establish a nice lead by half time and pound the ball with Smith, Allen and Russell the rest of the game.

Chip Cosby also takes a look at how UK and La-Monroe match up by position. Cosby favors the Cats in all categories and calls both teams even at defensive line and special teams. I have watched La-Monroe play one game and wasn't very impressed. UK needs to take care of business early so the starters can receive a break in the 2nd half. I would like to see UK cover better on kickoff's and the secondary make some plays to help their confidence going into next week's SEC game.

ESPN's Chris Low hands out some midseason SEC awards and UK receives some accolades. Low gives Derrick Locke the "Best Player Returning from Injury" award, while Randall Cobb receives "The Most Underrated Player" award. Both of these guys are playing at a high level and deserve all the praise they receive.

I'm traveling to the game tonight and will send updates via Twitter so make sure you are signed up. Click here to follow me on twitter.

GO CATS!
