Morgan Newton's progress is obvious to Rich Brooks. After Newton's performance against Eastern Kentucky, the coaches should consider starting him over Mike Hartline. In my opinion, it's better to bring experience off the bench instead of vice- versa. Unless Mike Hartline looks incredibly sharp in practice, my vote would be to start Newton.
Mary Story also feels that Morgan Newton should be the UK starting quarterback against Vandy. Story feels Brooks should allow Hartline to be the hero if Newton struggles, much like I do. The coaches realize how important this game is and will start the player who gives the team it's best chance of winning.
Rich Brooks cautions against looking past Vandy. There are no gimmes in the SEC and Corey Peters feels the Commodores will play loose. I agree, what do they have to lose? They are playing UK at home on Senior Day. UK better come to play.
Corey Peters feels that UK's season is on the line against Vanderbilt. If UK doesn't pull out the win in Nashville, they will have an uphill battle to become bowl eligible. Assuming UK has all of their weapons back, they should win on the road this weekend.
ESPN named Morgan Newton the Freshman of the Week for his performance against Eastern Kentucky. Newton finished with 187 yards passing and two touchdowns which were career highs.
ESPN handed out their SEC Power Rankings and UK comes in at No 11. Both South Carolina and Mississippi State finished ahead of UK while Vanderbilt finished last. Interestingly enough, Auburn came in at No 5 on the list. UK must beat teams like South Carolina, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt to move up in the SEC.
