What do you think is the #1 Priority this offseason for the CATS?
1. The Competition at QB-No
2. Getting a Defense that can STOP the Run?-No
3. Finding another Receiver to stretch the Field?-No
4. Making sure that the O-Line gels in time for the beginning of the season?-No
According to Sporting News (week of March 1, 2010; p. 52), the No. 1 Priority of the 2010 Wildcats is "Sticking to a position for Randall Cobb. Wideout or Quarterback? Choose one. Cobb could be an electric wide receiver once he becomes more polished and consistent". Yes, that is a direct quote and NO, I am not kidding!
Wow! Who knew?
Honestly, I am not even sure what to say about that other than to report on it and let the reader form his/her own opinion.

The report is correct although it should say that the Cats didn't have much choice his first two years especially with the team injuries we had. At a couple points the last two seasons we had to play him everywhere to have a shot at beating certain teams.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that you get the ball into the hands of your playmakers and that's what UK Coaches were doing. Obviously, the team injuries sustained played a role in how/where Cobb was used...seems to me they made the right choices then and I'm sure they will make the right choices from here on out as well !!!
ReplyDeleteI doubt the Sporting News columnist actually did much research. He was probably assigned to cover a group of SEC teams and submit a draft prior to a publication deadline. He probably has no real clue about UK football.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, you have posed a great question. Without any doubt whatsoever, Joker's #1 spring priority is to resolve the QB competition, either by selecting the right guy or by getting the competition down to the right two finalists for August camp.
However, Joker also has at least three other very important spring objectives:
* Retool UK's OL following the graduation of four senior starters.
* Find a new starting DT to replace Corey Peters.
* Find a new starting MLB to replace Micah Johnson.
You can't handle Randall!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, the Offensive line is my biggest concern.
