Texas recruits stay in-state

Per ESPN two more recruits who the Cats offered committed to schools this weekend. Julius White III (Suglarland, Texas) committed to Rice over Kentucky, Air Force, Colorado State and Navy. White was likely being recruited to play corner for UK as he was listed at 5'9" and 185lbs.

Also, C.J. McElroy (League City, Texas) committed to Houston over Kentucky, Arizona, Boise State, Utah and Wyoming. McElroy plays receiver, while some schools were recruiting him as an athlete.

  1. Aaron, have you heard anything recently on Isiah Norton? Supposedly he was pretty high on the Cats a few weeks ago. Thanks.

  2. UK's coaching staff has been very very active in Texas this year, and it is likely that UK may sign a Texan or two in February. So far, though, the Cats have drawn a blank in the Lone Star State. FWIW, I doubt the Cats will be able to sign Isiah Norton. Norton has offers from a handful of D-1 programs in Texas, as well as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska. I have heard he is very interested in Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Nebraska. While UK has a shot, I would not get my hopes up.

However, a couple of other Texas prospects have also shown interest in UK. We should keep an eye on Rickey Lunford and Christian Jones. Jones is a lanky WR/S out of Spring, Texas. IIRC, I think Aaron may have interviewed Jones previously. Lunford is a very interesting RB/S prospect out of Clute, Texas. Lunford is athletic, and can really run. UK has a pretty good shot to sign Lunford, and he is the kind of speedy, versatile athlete Joker really likes.

  3. Aaron, Mike Summers was an assistant coach in Texas, can't remember which school-maybe Texas A&M many years ago. He would be a good interview for you on how the Texas kids want to stay in the state and are very cliquish. There is big-time peer pressure for those kids to sign with Texas schools.

  4. I heard a while back Norton was considering a commitment but was talked out of it. I've also heard he is going to attend a camp at UK this summer. If both are accurate, maybe he commits on his visit. However, the Cats have had difficulty in landing Texas players.
