Wednesday UK Football Links and Notes

Brett Dawson writes that UK has had a peaceful handoff at quarterback. Morgan Newton will continue to get better, but will look like a freshman at times. During those times, when the QB turns the wrong way on a hand off or doesn't send his receiver in motion the Cats can turn to Will Fidler. Fidler may not have the raw ability that Newton does, but he commands the respect of his teammates and seems to have a better understanding of what UK needs to do on offense. I fully support playing both quarterbacks at this time. Morgan Newton is the future and Will Fidler will help get him there.

Randall Cobb has 16 career touchdowns as a sophomore, 10 rushing and six receiving. Cobb is well on his way to pass Craig Yeast's school record of 32 career touchdowns.

Safety Taiedo Smith was tested for the swine flu and thankfully the tests have come back negative per Rich Brooks today.

Derrick Locke will test his knee today for the UK trainers and coaching staff. Locke is currently listed as questionable for Saturday's game. Again, I would try my best not to play Locke and only use him if necessary. He needs to be 100% for the rest of the season. Look for freshman Donald Russell to receive some carries on Saturday if Locke and Allen are unable to play. Moncell Allen missed practice yesterday with the flu.

There are still tickets available for all remaining UK football home games. Call the Joe Craft center for more information 800-928-2287.
