Friday UK Football Notes and Links

The Charlotte Observer ranks the SEC QB's so far this season. Mike Hartline came in at No 9 while the Morgan Newton-Will Fidler combo ranked No 12. Based on what we have seen thus far I believe Ryan Mallett is the best QB in the league and the Observer is being to kind to Jevan Snead.

Six SEC players remain on Mel Kiper Jr's Big Board for the NFL Draft. Kiper has no love for the Cats right now. Remember NFL teams put a lot of stock into the combines, which will help guys like Micah Johnson and Trevard Lindley.

Larry Vaught has a nice Q&A with defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin. I agree with Lumpkin, this is a huge game for the Cats. If the team wins, the Cats have a chance to finish strong with seven wins. On the flip side, if the Cats lose, they are putting a lot of pressure on themselves to finish strong to get to six wins. With a new QB playing at Auburn, the offense will struggle to score touchdowns. The Cats really need the defense and special teams to come up with a score to pull of the upset at Auburn.

UK commit Raymond Sanders will play on ESPNU tonight at 6pm. If you have no plans tonight watch the speedster play and determine for yourself if UK found another hidden talent.

On the recruiting front, UK remains in the mix with several high profile recruits. Here are a couple of names that UK is pursuing that have flown under the radar:
  1. Adrian Hubbard (Norcross, Ga) big, very athletic and holds basketball and football offers. Being recruited by a lot of ACC and SEC schools.
  2. Nermin Delic (Dalton, GA) another big TE/DE prospect. Delic is listed as 3-star recruit according to Rivals.
  3. Tee Howell (Morristown, TN) is another unranked athlete that holds offers from some mid-major programs. It's unclear if UK has offered at this point.
  4. Caleb Watkins (Corbin, KY) is also unranked according to Rivals, but UK is still evaluating Watkins. He is big and fast and could play linebacker in college.
