2010 Recruiting Rewind- Raymond Sanders

Raymond Sanders (RB) was initially overlooked by major schools due to his size; however his performance on ESPNU quickly proved he was one of the best running backs in the Southeast. Sanders reminds many of Dion Lewis (Pitt) in the way he runs. He is very shifty like Randall Cobb, but faster. The staff has stated they expect to use Sanders on punt returns and line him up all over the field too. He will be one of the most exciting players to watch every time he touches the ball. Assuming he stays healthy, look for Sanders to see action as a true freshman.

  1. Aaron, I agree with you that Ray is in the conversation to take off his redshirt and play in 2010. There is a numbers issue, since Derrick Locke, Moncell Allen, Donald Russell, and Coshik Williams return. But Ray adds another dimension.

In hindsight, I think people will see that Ray was one of the two best RB prospects in Georgia last fall. Ray is incredibly quick, with an explosive burst and great vision. He is a lot tougher and stronger than his physical stature suggests, but it still remains to be seen how well he will hold up to the pounding in the SEC. That's the big question.

  2. Agreed, he will have to be like Locke...when your on the sidelines, sometimes you run out of bounds instead of fighting for a couple of yards.

Sanders will should be a special teams factor and carry the ball a few times per game...maybe. However, the staff wants to move him around a lot.

He is also a high character kid. Joker compared him to Wesley Woodyard in that respect.
