Ryan Smith Interview
Ryan recently attended the National Underclassmen Combine and received the Defensive Line MVP Award and the Strongest Lineman Award. He told me he benched 185lbs 36 times at the combine. His max is 350lbs on bench and 655lbs on squat. He will attend the Top 100 camp on July 10th.
Ryan has taken visits to Western Kentucky, Kentucky and Louisville and will visit Navy on July 16th. He plans to attend camps at Marshall (June 6th), Kentucky (June 8th), Louisville (June 13th) and Illinois (June 19th).
Last season Ryan was named Honorable Mention All-City and is determined to be 1st Team All-State in 2010. He hopes to major in Sports Management or Business. Based on the interview, Ryan will be playing his senior season with a chip on his shoulder. He seems out to show everyone he is one of the most underrated players in the state.

Adam Wing Interview & Video
This afternoon I interviewed Adam Wing (2012-QB) who will attend UK's camp this weekend. Adam informed me Tee Martin recently visited his school and Northwestern visited as well.
Adam received a couple of post season awards as a sophomore and will no doubt garner more attention as a junior. He will attend camps at EKU on June 6th, Northwestern on June 15th, Purdue on June 17th and 18th and possibly Ohio State on June 26th.
Adam told me his goals are to gain more weight (get up to 200lbs), work on his drops and help build the teams overall confidence. He could be a sleeper considering his team runs the triple option. He told me he feels most comfortable in the shotgun formation. He currently runs a 4.8 forty yard dash. His team made it to the playoffs last season and finished 7-4. Adam feels the team will be better this upcoming season.
Recruits on campus this weekend updated
- Bubba Tandy (WR)
- Mitchell Henry (TE)
- Cody Robinson (OL)
- Kal Prince (QB)
- Mike Wegzyn (QB)
- Neal Pawsat (QB)
- Antonio Cannon (WR) commit
- Travis Elliott (RB) 2012
- Adam Wing (QB/ATH) 2012
None of the players above hold offers from Kentucky, which is why they are attending camp. This is an opportunity for the coaching staff to watch the players in action up close and possibly make a decision regarding a scholarship. I wouldn't rule out a commitment if any offer is extended.
Red Shirt Report- post spring
Below are the players who red-shirted the 2009 season for Kentucky. There are several players who will compete for playing time and others will have back up roles in 2010. We will take our best guess based on feedback and spring reports as to each player’s role for 2010.
Brian Adams (WR) had to sit out 2009 due to heath concerns. Adams played quarterback in high school and was also a member of the UK baseball team this season. Tee Martin has already named Adams the fastest receiver on the team. Adams should see playing time this fall as his speed will help stretch the field. Look for him to make an impact on special teams as well.
Dakotah Tyler (S) came to UK as a running back and spent the 2009 season working in the back field. However, Joker Phillips announced Tyler requested a move to Safety. My guess is prep star from Indiana saw the writing on the wall with the UK backfield and figured his opportunity for playing time would come in the UK secondary. Tyler has a good frame and will add more speed to the secondary. This spring he found himself competing with Josh Gibbs for the bulk of playing time. Again, if he doesn’t find himself starting on defense, he will most certainly have an impact on special teams.
Jarvis Walker (S) and his brother came to UK from Louisiana. Based on reports, Jarvis will play strong safety at UK. He does have the size to make a move to outside linebacker at some point in his career. Reports suggested Walker had a good spring and will compete with Josh Gibbs and Dakota Tyler for the starting job this fall.
Jonathan George (RB) spent the 2009 season working on the UK scout team. George has good speed and there was no reason to waste a year of eligibility with UK having depth at the position last year. George has found himself in a battle for the back up role behind Derrick Locke. In all reality, Donald Russell may have earned the back up role with his performance in the spring game, but George will receive carries. He too is another speedster who will find himself on special teams.
Jordan Aumiller (TE) came to UK as an athlete that many felt could see action at tight-end. However, in 2009 the Boyle County athlete worked as a linebacker on the scout team. Before spring, the staff announced Aumiller would indeed move to Tight End for 2010. Reports suggest Aumiller had a good spring, but still has to learn the offense before he can assert himself. He will compete with Ryan Wallace, Anthony Kendrick, Nick Melillo and incoming freshman Alex Smith for playing time.
Kevin Mitchell (OL) will likely back up in 2010, but with UK losing four seniors the starting jobs are wide open. UK didn’t sign many offensive linemen in the 2010 class so Mitchell will be another freshman, except he should be stronger and understand the game plan a year later. Reports suggest the staff was disappointed with some offensive linemen they felt would step up in the spring and surprised by others. Could Mitchell be one of the surprises in 2010?
Mister Cobble (DT) earned the respect of his coaches and teammates after being named the Scout Team Defensive Player of the Year. The Cats lost Corey Peters to graduation and the NFL, therefore his job is open heading into the fall. I believe Mark Crawford, Shane McCord and Cobble will battle for playing time. Cobble has a very low center of gravity and plays hard on every down. Cobble had a great spring, but must show up in better shape for fall camp. Cobble is the one player on this list who could have the biggest impact on the team’s success.
Myron Walker (DL) came to UK with his brother Jarvis (see above) and spent last season working on the scout team. Myron is a load up front at 260 lbs and been described as “bowling ball” because he is 5’10”. There have been some reports that suggest Myron could be leaving the program, however he was listed on the UK spring roster. It appears he will have a back up role in 2010.
Patrick Ligon (DE) will likely back up at the defensive end position. Ligon could possibly move to the interior line at some point in his career. He is approx 6’5” and 260 lbs. Joker has stated many times, UK needs to get longer at the defensive end position to interfere with passing lanes. With Ligon’s height, he can do just that. However, he may not be as athletic as some of the other ends on campus. Because of spring classes and injuries, Ligon received a lot of reps this spring which should be huge for him heading into fall camp.
Qua Huzzie (LB) came to UK as another under-the-radar recruit from LaGrange and many schools over looked him due to his height. In watching Huzzie’s film, what he lacks in height is made up with speed. Huzzie attacks the ball and plays up-field. He also has the speed to match up with running backs coming out of the back field. Look for Huzzie to compete with Ronnie Sneed for the starting middle linebacker spot.
Ryan Mosby (LB) came to UK as a three-star recruit from Texas. Mosby fits the OLB mold as he is 6’ tall and 200 lbs. Mosby has a good speed running a 4.5 forty-yard dash. Ryan will likely back up Danny Trevathan and see action on special teams.
Ryan Mossakowski (QB) could be the top recruit from the 2009 class and will battle with Mike Hartline and Morgan Newton for the starting job in 2010. The staff has been impressed with decision making ability and he could win the starting job this fall. Many people have written Mossakowski off because of Morgan Newton’s performance last year, but don’t count him out.
Sam Simpson (OL) was one of the prize recruits in the 2009 recruiting class for the Cats. The center could have earned playing time last year, but the staff had depth and decided to use a redshirt on him. Based on reports from spring practice, Simpson will have a back up role at center and has been working some at the guard position as well. Simpson was also named the Scout Team Offensive MVP last season.
Tristian Johnson (DE) is another LaGrange prospect Joker Phillips pulled out of Georgia. With UK’s depth at defensive end and linebacker in 2009, there was no reason to waste a year of eligibility. Johnson will be competing for a back up role this fall behind DeQuin Evans, Taylor Wyndham and Collins Ukwu. Johnson had a great spring and Joker Phillips pointed out his intensity on several occasions.

Brandon Shell names Top 5
Brandon Shell of Goose Creek in South Carolina named his Top 5 Schools for his college career (UK was not among the Top 5). It looks like he will stay in either ACC or SEC country (which is no great shock to those who follow recruiting). His HS coach seems to be mentoring him through the selection process.

The UK vs UL Football Rivalry Begins Now!
The first of a million to come UK vs UL, C Strong vs J Phillips articles is out. A bleacherreport article compares the history of the programs, coaching, recruiting, bowls, etc. Both programs look to be on the way up!
Clint Tucker verbals as a UK Wildcat
Clint Tucker, a DT from E. St. Louis HS (IL) has verballed to the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The 6 ft 2 in, 285 lb D-lineman becomes the 9th verbal of the 2011 class. He joins fellow HS teammate Glen Faulkner (DB) who committed to the Wildcats back in March of 2010. Tucker is ranked the #39 DT by one recruiting service and fills one of the DT needs in what many consider to be the top need in the recruiting class (I could actually see Kentucky signing as many as 3 DTs and at least 2 for the 2011 class). Tucker already has the frame to contribute to the team and should have a great Senior HS season. At this point, the recruiting of Tucker and Faulkner open up another pipeline to one of the great HS powers in Illinois. The two teammates look to be the bedrock of the Kentucky defense for the next few seasons, and both players should provide impact at their positions given their skill set for the football field.
It was thought by some (including me) that he would verbal to a Big 12 School (possibly Kansas).

More on Jewell Ratliff
Someone sent this to me today on Jewell Ratliff:
"Was a two-time All-District and All-State Class 4A selection... Finished senior year with 87 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles and five interceptions while recording 70 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, six sacks, five forced fumbles and three picks as a junior... Played in the Pontchartrain All-Star Classic... Was a prep teammate of Cajuns defensive lineman Derreck Dean... Lettered in both football and basketball"

Michigan Football Investigation a Sham!
It looks like the Blue and Maize of Ann Arbor (AKA University of Michigan) has performed it's due diligence by investigating it's Football Program. Collegefootballtalk.com has a few comments on the Report which admits that Michigan did break some of the rules of which it was charged, yet basically failed to admit any wrong doing (How can you admit to exceeding practice time, staff size, and fail to "properly" monitor the program (paragraph #3), yet not admit that you failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance (paragraph #4?).
Anyways, that slap on the wrist that UM gave themselves from the internal investigation almost, kinda, sorta stung, but not really!
Bottomline, the NCAA will let Michigan skate, because "they are Michigan". No, they will never come out and say it, but watch and see!
Numerous other schools have suffered severe penalties (UK included) for similar crimes. The football world will be watching this very closely (especially those coaches accused of "Secondary Violations"), the question remains "How consistent will the NCAA be in administering equitable punishment for similar offenses?"
The actual Report can be found here!
Larry Vaught on Lamar Dawson
Larry Vaught has an article about the recruiting of Lamar Dawson (a 4* MLB from Boyle County KY). It seems as though Lamar wants to wait until after the season is over to make his commitment. He is considering many schools and has not ruled out Oregon or Louisville.
Whatever his decision, some team will be glad that Lamar is a part of their program

Jalen Harrington (Louisville), Zep Grimes (Illinois), Jermaine Whitehead (Miss St.), Glen Faulkner (Kentucky)
Updates
Eilar Hardy likes the SEC, Damian Swann is considering the Cats, The Cats are pursuing Flo Hardin and Tee Martin has called Pat Martin to sell him on UK. David Stevenson and Jared Boyd are Stephenson High School products that could follow their teammates to Lexington while most of the others seem to be in the “evaluation process” right now. The Cats are making a push for Darren Waller and his teammate Troy Gray.
Most likely to be a Cat
Damian Swann, Eilar Hardy, Jared Boyd, Flo Hardin and Darren Waller. Swann could be recruited as an athlete, but most feel he will play corner. Some reports suggest Hardy could play either corner or safety. Boyd projects as a corner at the next level while both Hardin and Waller are safety candidates.

The 10 Greatest Football Teams of All Time
The Bleacherreport has an article detailing "The Greatest College Football Teams of All Time". Interestingly, the Greatest team of all time was left off of the list!
You see, back in 1898, the University of Kentucky had a football team (Football started at UK in 1881 and Kentucky was one of the very first colleges to actually field a team) which has become know as "The Immortals" which were coached by W. R. Bass. The team went 7-0 for the year and to this day, remain the ONLY College Football Team which has been UNDEFEATED, UNTIED, and UNSCORED UPON!! How can you get better than that?
Interestingly enough, the largest player on the team weighed a whopping 147 lbs.
Stuart Hines gets the Love!
Stuart Hines, Offensive Guard for the University of Kentucky Wildcats has been listed as one of the Top 10 players at that position (Stuart checks in at #7) in the ACC and SEC collectively by Southernpigskin.com. Stuart has been a stalwart for the O-line for the last several years and will probably find himself making a paycheck on Sundays in the NFL.
Stuart Hines is a 6 ft 4 in guard who hails from Bowling Green Kentucky and has had previous mentions for All -SEC Teams.
Can/Will Kentucky beat Auburn?
The Bleacherreport has an article on "The 9 teams that Can/Will beat Auburn for the 2010 Season". Kentucky is listed as one of those teams.

Dukes is #12 in white and red on the video. Sandy Creek HS is the same school Alex Chisum attends. Chisum has been one of UK's priority WR recruits in the 2011 class. Also, Rajion Neal, who UK recruited last year attends the same school.
